A drawing package is useful only when everyone can tell what it represents. Before an EPC team orders steel or releases an installation crew, someone has to confirm that the package matches the latest layout, the agreed loading criteria and the status the project believes it has.
Reviewing mounting drawings is less about re-checking member sizes and more about checking that the pieces fit together and that nothing is missing.
Start with status, then geometry
Confirm the project name, drawing number, revision, issue date and status. A tender or review issue may be good for coordination but is not automatically approved for ordering or installation.
Then check support spacing, member orientation, bracing, base details and the foundation or roof interface against the current array layout and equipment selection. Where a connection is shown schematically, confirm whether a separate fabrication detail will follow and what it will cover.
- Match the drawings to the current module and support layout.
- Check levels, spans, member marks and detail references.
- List connection or foundation details still to be issued.
Make comments specific enough to close
A good comment names the location and revision, states the mismatch or question and says what would close it. Record the response and the revised drawing reference so the site team can see how it was resolved. If a comment leads to a design change, the calculations and other affected documents have to be reviewed too.
Open comments that affect safety, fit, anchorage or the design basis need a defined path to resolution before the related work goes ahead. Silence is not approval.
- Keep a comment register with owner and status.
- Confirm changed details still match the calculations.
- Send the latest approved set to every workstream.
- Do not treat a phone call as approval without a record.
